There are a lot of new things I've been working on in the studio, and having little to no internet in the studio has been terribly frustrating as of late. Below, the sketch for a painting I'm working on of my fabulous friend Jenna of Tryon Bike. Jenna is a bike mechanic extraordinaire, and was kind enough to let me hang out for awhile, talk about bikes, and take her picture :)

I'm also working with the Eastman School of Music on their "Day of Service" for incoming freshman. This is my second year doing the tee-shirt design, and here's the final sketch from that, complete with notes!

Whale fight!!!

I've been catering a lot lately, lots of parties poolside. The heat is relentless, and it hasn't really rained for three weeks. Today we had two teaser rainfalls, followed by insane heat and humidity. It's really becoming hard to work late in the studio while you're sweating profusely. Below, a piece inspired by the catering, and my absolute love of Julia Child. I'm thinking that My Life in France will be my next read :)

Some new (rough) sketches for the bike show. BIKE SHOW! I need to have a mailer piece by next week, because I want to start distributing mailers in August. I'm thinking this tour-de-France gentleman may become a lino, racing with others.

Today is the first rest day for the Tour de France riders, and boy, do they need it. There have been a ton of crashes so far, including one that involved a car clipping a cyclist and sending them into barbed wire! Yeesh. I really wanted to ride at least 20 miles of each day of the tour, but life got in the way :( Hats off to them!

Some sketches for a music festival bring me back to my old favorite diver's helmet, and, I have to say, a welcome break from bike drawings/paintings. It's very difficult for me to do a themed show, since once I start drawing only one thing, it seems like I want to draw anything but that subject.

I'm really fond of this one!

Good morning, blog! Well... evening. Having recently moved, I have a lot to catch up on. I'm loving the summer, and the new crazy-busy-lifestyle that somehow differs from the crazy winter-busy-lifestyle. Somehow, the summer seems more tiring! I've been plugging away in the studio on pieces for the September bike show at Orange Glory, below is a warm-up sketch from last week. I'm really excited about the background patterns going on in this one, and would like to bring that into more of my finished work.

Here's a lady that may look very familiar to you, I met her in Austin in March with her fabulous bicycle. I finally got her out of the sketchbook and on real watercolor paper!!!!

Progress on my painting of that sketch...!!! I'm working on mixing tight line drawings with painterly elements... not 100% done yet but I'm really happy with the progress, and learning new ways of manipulating the window, and new medias in use :)





Finally, in honor of the solstice, the sunset from my studio window!

Forgive the lack of blogging, please! I finished up the logo for Roni Kobrosly's Rochester Study of Healthy Minds and Bodies. This project was definitely a departure from what I normally do, and it was a great learning experience for expanding my repertoire of projects. I'm really happy with how the final image came out!

I'm working on my next show, slated for September, which is bike themed. I actually drew this sketch out on a day where I was a bit stressed out about cycling.

Now it's in the works to becoming a multi layered window piece! Yay!

The final will have the stone wall, and a bright sky background. I want to utilize some new medias for this piece.

Finally, I rode the 65 mile leg of the Rochester Sage-Rutty Tour de Cure for Team Chain Reaction this past weekend! The completion of this marked the first team sport that I've actively participated in since I played soccer (very badly) in 6th grade. I feel like it was a milestone for my personal athleticism, and it definitely made me want to participate in more tours... both in Rochester and elsewhere. There's something to be said about experiencing an area with just you, your bike, the countryside, and your thoughts. Some might say it's my personal zen.
