Living Dastardly.

The lovely Ms. Jennifer Fisher.. the first time I've drawn her since high school (feeling old here)! Check out her blog... she's a freaking awesome girl with a knack for writing and drawing :)

This First Friday in Rochester was quite fabulous... I finally got to see the work of Andy Gilmore on display in a gallery! I highly suggest you check out the ongoing Geometries show at RoCo.

Another lovely show from this past Friday is the Cinemonstrum show ongoing at 1975 Gallery. This show featured many awesome local artists, including some works by a dear friend, Matt Roberts. Horror movie villains and monsters? Yesplease.

I finished my piece for the shoes show! It developed in an interesting fashion, with more watercolor than I originally anticipated. Onward to new projects!

6X6 madness!

It seems that Mr. Langhorne Slim is having a logo design contest... and I would love, love, love, LOVE to win it! Here are my two submissions to the contest.

Working on 6X6, the final of the man, the myth, the legend, EDWARD GOREY!!!

I've been wanting to incorporate different media into my pieces, and this was my first go, yet another 6X6 piece.

I've been working on getting a nice likeness of George Harrison all week, and I'm pretty pleased with this final piece. In addition to entering it in the 6X6 show, I think I'll use this image for a new promotional mailer to hand out to musicians that I meet.

Finally, a preliminary sketch of Mr. Harrison.

A few new scans...

A few Langhorne Slim pieces that never made it to the web. Speaking of musical inspiration, there's a contest going on with Readymade Magazine for art inspired by music. Check it out, my fellow artists!!!

T-minus 4 days until the opening!!!

Thank god for NPR! When I feel bored with my music... I go on there and check out some of their favorites, and they never steer me wrong. I've been listening to the Black Keys for quite some time, so I was really excited to see that the lead singer, Dan Auerbach, has a solo album (Keep It Hid) that was featured in their top ten albums of 2009. Not only that, he is one creepy looking dude. I started drawing him and this is what happened.

This piece, for my show, is for all of those people who found the other ones "too weird". Bite me.

sail us to the moon

first and foremost, i have been getting a lot of slack lately for my pieces for my new show not being "normal" enough. so here's a sketch of carla selling out, doing a tiny tim piece for the christmas season.
i'm also putting some classical style portraits in the show, this is a rough sketch of my friend gayle, who you may remember from an earlier post.
In the sociopath piece, i drew inspiration from one of my scrap sheets, seen above. I had gotten gesso all over it while painting the spider web for the black widow piece, and i absolutely love playing with watercolor over gesso. i played with the media further, and had a lot of fun! i love how it resists.

oh hey, 30 Rock's new season starts thursday! who has two thumbs, doesn't speak limited french, and is super pumped? THIS MOI! some old sketches of my girl crush tina fey and the ever sexy alec baldwin.

Many things to share!

visiting with some family over the weekend, i stumbled upon this adorable picture of my mom when she was little :)
i've also been inspired to post some of my sketches based on inktober, since i mainly sketch in ink anyways. when i started sketching in ink, i had my trepidations, but it's become second nature to me over the years, and i love the freedom of it.
based on this sketch, the next few pictures that i do for my show will have text incorporated. i love the simplicity of this sketch, but i also want to look at my personal text/image master, sterling hundley, for more inspiration.
a new piece for my show.... no explanation really needed.
and finally, to recap the trip down memory lane to the catskills, the view from my aunt and uncle's house. throughout my childhood, we traveled up here every month to visit my grandmother and other family in the area. over time, the trips became less frequent, my grandmother eventually moved to a condo in woodstock before passing away. coming back up here reminds me of my roots, my love of the mountain and the area, the importance of family, and my desire to come back and reconnect more often.
